Assam Panchayat Elections: Two-Phase Voting on May 2 & 7, Results on May 11
Guwahati; April 03, 2025: The Assam State Election Commission has announced that the Panchayat elections in the state will be held in two phases. The first phase is scheduled for May 2, while the second phase will take place on May 7. The election results will be declared on May 11.
Chief Election Commissioner Alok Kumar shared this information during a press conference at the Assam State Election Commission Office in Guwahati’s Panjabari area. According to the election schedule, Upper Assam will go to the polls in the first phase, while Lower and Central Assam will vote in the second phase.
A total of 1,80,36,682 voters are eligible to cast their votes in these elections. The nomination process begins tomorrow and will continue until April 11. To ensure smooth conduct, 25,007 polling stations will be set up across the state. With the announcement of the elections, the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced with immediate effect.
The Election Commission has also announced expenditure limits for candidates. For Anchalik Panchayat (AP) elections, the spending limit is set at ₹2.5 lakh. Candidates contesting for Gaon Panchayat (GP) elections have a limit of ₹25,000, while for Zilla Parishad Constituency (ZPC) elections, the maximum expenditure allowed is ₹10 lakh.
In a first, all details of candidates contesting in the Zilla Parishad and Anchalik Panchayat elections will be available on a dedicated website. Additionally, 50% of seats have been reserved for women. The Gaon Panchayat elections will be conducted without party symbols, and candidates will be assigned symbols determined by the Election Commission.
The upcoming elections are expected to see high voter participation as they play a crucial role in shaping grassroots governance in Assam.
