Assam Police Strike Major Blow to Drug Network, Seize Rs 48 Crore Worth of Narcotics
Desk Report, June 18, 2024: In a significant blow to drug trafficking networks, Assam Police have successfully conducted two major anti-narcotics operations, seizing drugs valued at ₹48 crore. These operations, carried out in different districts of the state, underscore the relentless efforts of Assam Police to curb the inflow of narcotics and protect the lives of countless individuals from the devastating impact of drug abuse.
The first operation, executed by the Sivasagar Police, resulted in the recovery of 4.6 kilograms of heroin, with an estimated market value of ₹40 crore. During this operation, two individuals were apprehended and are currently in police custody for further investigation.
In a separate operation, the Karbi Anglong Police seized 8.033 kilograms of morphine, valued at ₹8 crore. One suspect was arrested in connection with this significant drug haul.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the efforts of the Assam Police through a social media post, stating, “Good job Team Assam.” His acknowledgment highlights the state government’s commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies in their fight against narcotics.
The apprehended individuals are expected to face stringent legal action, and further investigations are underway to uncover and dismantle the larger networks involved in these drug trafficking activities.
