Assam Police Make Major Drug Seizures as Part of Anti-Narcotics Initiative
Desk Report, May 19, 2024: In a notable development, Assam Police have reported significant progress in their ongoing battle against drug trafficking over the last two days, on May 18 and 17. These efforts are part of the larger #AssamAgainstDrugs initiative, which aims to eliminate narcotics and ensure the safety of young people.
On May 18, the Karbi Anglong Police made a substantial seizure, confiscating approximately 574 grams of heroin powder. The contraband was cleverly concealed within 50 plastic soap boxes, alongside a vehicle. Preceding this, on the previous day, Karimganj Police successfully intercepted around 350 grams of heroin, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
Hailing these accomplishments, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media on May 18 to commend the police force, expressing his appreciation with the words, “Great job, Team Assam!” These operations serve as a testament to the state’s unwavering dedication to combating drug-related offenses and ensuring the welfare of its citizens.
