Assam Police Seizes Drugs Worth ₹5 Crore in Major Anti-Narcotics Operations
In a significant crackdown on narcotics, Assam Police seized drugs valued at ₹5 crore in two separate operations. These efforts align with the state’s ongoing mission to combat the drug menace.
The first operation took place in the Cachar district, where a joint team of Cachar Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) intercepted a consignment at Katigorah. They recovered 442 grams of heroin valued at ₹3.1 crore. The drugs were being smuggled from a neighboring state. One person was arrested in connection with this seizure.
In a separate operation in Karbi Anglong, the district police intercepted a vehicle also coming from a neighboring state. Inside, they discovered 9.11 kilograms of opium and 1.030 kilograms of morphine, together valued at ₹2 crore. Two individuals were taken into custody.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the police for their dedication. Through his social media platform ‘X,’ he reiterated the state’s commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes, stating, “We will continue our mission for a Drugs Free Assam.”
These operations highlight Assam Police’s relentless efforts to curb the illegal drug trade and ensure the safety of the community. The arrests and recoveries mark another step in the state’s fight against narcotics.
