Assam Declares November 13 as Public Holiday for By-Elections in Five Constituencies
Guwahati: The Government of Assam has announced a public holiday on November 13, 2024, in five Assembly Constituencies due to upcoming by-elections. This decision, issued under Section 25 of the N.I. Act, 1881, applies to both government and private sectors within these regions, including educational institutions, banks, tea gardens, and businesses.
According to an official notification from the General Administration Department, the constituencies observing the holiday are:
1. Dholai (SC) AC
2. Sidli (ST) AC
3. Bongaigaon AC
4. Behali AC
5. Samaguri AC
The by-elections are set to take place on November 13, as per directives from the Election Commission of India (ECI), which prompted the state administration to declare the holiday in the interest of public participation in the polling process.
This measure ensures that residents of these constituencies can exercise their voting rights without hindrance.
