Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police Seize 2.25 Crores Myanmar Kyat, Arrest Six in Champhai
Desk Report, August 25, 2024: In a significant operation, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Mizoram Police, seized illegal Myanmar currency worth approximately ₹93.10 lakhs. The joint operation took place in the Mualkawi area of Champhai District, Mizoram. Authorities recovered a total of 2.25 crores Myanmar Kyat, and apprehended six individuals from Aizawl, Lunglei, and Champhai.
Two vehicles were also seized during the operation, highlighting the scale of the illegal currency trafficking. The operation underscores ongoing efforts to curb illicit activities in the region, particularly along the India-Myanmar border. The arrested individuals and the seized currency have been handed over to local authorities for further investigation.
This operation by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police is a significant step in tackling cross-border illegal currency smuggling, ensuring enhanced security and law enforcement in the region.
