Assam Government Launches Comprehensive Road Safety Blueprint for Safer Streets
Guwahati, August 21, 2024: In a significant move towards enhancing road safety, the Assam Government has introduced a comprehensive road safety blueprint aimed at reimagining and securing the state’s streets. This initiative is designed to empower communities and ensure strict compliance with road safety regulations.
The blueprint focuses on ‘Accurate Data Collection’ by utilizing a dedicated manpower and the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) as a single platform. This step is crucial in ensuring that accident data is accurately recorded and analyzed to inform future safety measures.
To standardize enforcement across various vehicle types, the government has laid out Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) specific to two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and e-rickshaws. This move is expected to bring uniformity and rigor to traffic enforcement, ensuring that all vehicles adhere to the same safety standards.
Counselling for Offenders forms a critical component of this initiative. The government has mandated regular counselling sessions focused on traffic laws, safety, and personal testimonies for those who violate road safety regulations. This approach not only penalizes offenders but also educates them, aiming to prevent repeat violations.
Monitoring and feedback play a vital role in this initiative. Mandatory attendance for counselling is enforced with a robust feedback and follow-up system, ensuring that offenders are not only attending sessions but also internalizing the lessons learned.
The government has also emphasized Community Involvement in this initiative. By engaging local communities and providing accessible counselling venues, the blueprint seeks to minimize inconvenience and foster a culture of safety awareness among citizens.
This comprehensive blueprint is a testament to the Assam Government’s commitment to road safety, ensuring a safer tomorrow for all.
