Assam STF Cracks Down on Drug Smuggling Network in Guwahati
Guwahati, June 13, 2024: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Assam Special Task Force (STF) apprehended Sanjay Mahato of Basistha, Kamrup (M), on June 12, 2024. Mahato was arrested in front of ISBT under Gorchuk Police Station with 49.5 grams of heroin in 24 vials.
Following Mahato’s interrogation, authorities arrested Ajit Rabha, also known as Garo, from Basistha, Kamrup (M), on the morning of June 13. This led to the recovery of an additional 129 grams of heroin from two separate locations.
Further questioning revealed the involvement of Chand Mohammad Ali, 38, from Sonapur Pathar, Sonapur, Guwahati. Ali was implicated in drug smuggling activities in the Khanapara and Basistha areas of Guwahati.
These arrests are the culmination of several months of surveillance by the STF, Assam. This operation is expected to significantly disrupt the drug smuggling network operating in the fringe areas of Guwahati, particularly in Khanapara and Basistha.
The STF is currently investigating any further associations or involvements of other suspects. A case has been registered under STF Police Station Case No. 08/2024 U/S- 21(b)/25/29 of the NDPS Act, and the investigation is ongoing.
