Assam STF Officers Awarded Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Padak for Crime-Fighting Excellence
Guwahati: Four Assam Special Task Force (STF) members have been awarded the esteemed Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Padak by the Ministry of Home Affairs for their unwavering commitment to public safety. Leading the group is Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Inspector General of Police and STF head, accompanied by Kalyan Kumar Pathak (Additional SP), Hemanta Kachari (LNK), and Rajkumar Kaibartta (UB Constable).
The award highlights their notable work from March 2023 to March 2024, marked by operations that targeted organized crime. Under Mahanta’s guidance, the STF made strides against drug trafficking, counterfeit currency, and rhino poaching. Their dedicated anti-drug efforts have curbed narcotics distribution, especially heroin, mitigating a rising substance abuse issue among Assam’s youth.
STF efforts also focused on intercepting illegal entry of Rohingyas from Bangladesh into Assam. In a major success in March 2024, the team captured Harish Farukhi, India’s ISIS head, alongside an accomplice. This arrest thwarted planned sabotage activities, reinforcing Assam’s regional stability.
Additional awards went to Subrata Kumar Sen, Additional SP of Cachar, and Amrit Kumar Singha, Inspector of Silchar Police Station, for their diligent work on Silchar PS case no. 2754/22. This high-profile investigation, led by Sen, rapidly identified suspects in the death of Jharna Panda. Within 48 hours, the team apprehended suspects and secured the vehicle involved, underscoring the Assam police’s commitment to swift justice.
