Assam STF Seizes 537.2gms of Heroin Worth ₹4 Crore in Jorabat Operation
Guwahati: In a well-coordinated early morning operation today, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam intercepted a truck in the Jorabat area, located near the Assam-Meghalaya border. Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, STF personnel uncovered 537.2 grams of heroin, concealed in several packets. The seized heroin is estimated to be worth over ₹4 crore in the illegal drug market.
The driver of the truck was arrested at the scene. He is being interrogated to determine his connections with any larger drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
The operation was part of the STF’s continued efforts to curb drug smuggling in Assam, which has seen an increase in recent months. Authorities believe this seizure will deliver a significant blow to organized drug rings that use Assam as a transit point for narcotics distribution to other parts of India.
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the efforts of the STF team. He took to ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter) to share his appreciation, stating, “Good job Assam Police. The fight against drugs continues.” His remarks underscore the state’s ongoing war against narcotics under the “Drugs Free Assam” mission, launched by the state government to tackle the growing menace of drug abuse and trafficking.
This seizure comes as part of a larger crackdown by Assam Police in collaboration with various central agencies, aiming to make the state a safer place by rooting out drug-related activities.
