Assam Reaches Milestone in Rooftop Solar Power with PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
Guwahati, August 17, 2024: Assam has achieved a significant milestone in its clean energy drive by installing 1.8 megawatts (MW) of rooftop solar power under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. This initiative aims to make solar energy accessible to residential consumers, promoting the adoption of rooftop solar systems across the state.
Several measures have been taken by the Assam government to ensure a smooth transition to solar energy:
– Net-Metering for Residential Consumers: Solar units up to 10 kilowatts (kW) will have their exported units adjusted against grid consumption, improving energy efficiency for consumers.
– Waiver of Technical Feasibility Approval: Installations up to 10 kW of rooftop solar capacity are now exempt from the need for technical feasibility approval, simplifying the process.
– Automatic Load Capacity Enhancement: Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) will automatically enhance the sanctioned load up to 10 kW, linked with the commissioning of the Rooftop Solar (RTS) system.
– Quick RTS Commissioning: RTS plants will be commissioned within three days after installation. Beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar scheme will also receive free Smart Meters.
– State Subsidy for Central Subsidy Beneficiaries: The state government has assured the prompt release of subsidies for those eligible under the Central Subsidy scheme.
– Skill Development for Technicians: A specialized five-day training program has been launched at the MSME-Tool Room and Training Centre in Amingaon, Guwahati, to equip technicians with the necessary skills.
– Support for New Installations: APDCL has been directed to make provisions for installing new Distribution Transformers (DTRs) where needed, ensuring the smooth implementation of the scheme.
Assam’s comprehensive approach highlights its commitment to fostering a cleaner energy future. Rooftop solar power is set to play a crucial role in reshaping the state’s energy landscape.
