Co-Operative Society UDA Prabin Machahary Arrested for Bribe in Assam Fish Mahal Case
Guwahati, August 21, 2024: In a significant operation today, a team from the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, successfully trapped Prabin Machahary, an Upper Division Assistant (UDA) at the office of the Assistant Registrar, Co-operative Society in Goalpara, red-handed while accepting a bribe. Machahary was allegedly involved in corrupt practices related to the registration of a Meen (fish) Mahal. The operation was carried out based on a complaint received by the Vigilance department, which acted promptly to catch the official in the act.
The bribe was reportedly demanded by Machahary in exchange for facilitating the registration process of the fish Mahal, a critical license required for fishing rights in designated water bodies. Such practices undermine the integrity of public offices and disrupt the fair distribution of resources. The trap was set meticulously, with the Vigilance team ensuring all evidence was recorded, further strengthening the case against the accused.
Following the successful operation, Machahary was taken into custody, and an investigation has been launched to uncover any other potential links or involvement of higher officials. The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, continues to work tirelessly to root out corruption and maintain transparency in public service, sending a strong message that such unethical behavior will not be tolerated.
