Assam’s Excise Department Sets New Benchmarks in Revenue Collection and Economic Growth
Guwahati, August 17, 2024: The Excise Department of Assam has set a new benchmark in revenue collection for the fiscal year 2023-24, marking a significant milestone in the state’s economic landscape. The department reported a total revenue collection of ₹3,138.75 crore, surpassing its target of ₹3,000 crore by an impressive 104.62%. This achievement has elevated the department’s contribution to the state’s total tax revenue to 15.90%, up from 14.32% in the previous fiscal year.
The department’s success is indicative of its consistent and strategic efforts in boosting Assam’s economic growth. Over the past seven years, excise revenue has seen a more than three-fold increase, reflecting the department’s critical role in the state’s financial health.
Looking ahead, the Excise Department has set an ambitious revenue target of ₹4,100 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, representing a 30% increase from the previous year. By June 2024, the department had already collected ₹795 crore, achieving 25.30% of its annual target, positioning itself strongly for the remainder of the fiscal year.
This remarkable performance underscores the department’s commitment to sustaining economic development in Assam and its pivotal role in the state’s fiscal growth trajectory.
