Desk Report, January 17, 2024 – Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain has been handed a two-year ban from all cricket by the ICC for violating the Emirates Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption Code during the 2020-21 Abu Dhabi T10 League. The ban will remain in effect until April 7, 2025, after which Hossain will be eligible to resume playing international cricket.
Hossain was among eight individuals associated with the Pune Devils franchise who faced charges by the ICC in September 2023. Having admitted to three charges against him, he received a two-year ban, with six months suspended.
According to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit, the first charge against Hossain was failing to promptly disclose receiving a gift worth over US$750—an iPhone 12. The second charge involved not providing full details of an invitation to engage in corrupt conduct through the iPhone 12. The final charge accused him of refusing, without compelling justification, to cooperate with the Anti-Corruption Unit’s investigation into possible corrupt conduct, including the failure to provide accurate and complete information requested.
Hossain, who has represented Bangladesh in 19 Tests, 65 ODIs, and 31 T20Is, last played an international match in January 2018. Despite this, he continued playing domestic cricket until May 2023.
