Bangladeshi National Sentenced to Two Years Imprisonment for Illegal Entry into India
Guwahati, August 15, 2024: In a significant judgment, the Court of Additional Sessions Judge No. 1, Kamrup (M), Guwahati, pronounced Kasem Ali, a Bangladeshi national, guilty of illegally entering India. The court found Ali in violation of Section 14-A (b) of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and Section 12 (1) (c) of the Passport Act, 1967.
Ali was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fined ₹10,000. In case of default, his imprisonment will be extended by an additional year of simple imprisonment (SI). The judgment follows his arrest by the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Sonapur Police Station at Bodabasti Chowk on June 12, 2021. Ali had entered India from Bangladesh via Tripura without legal documents.
The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at Sonapur Police Station on July 13, 2021, and the chargesheet was filed on May 22, 2023. Following the completion of his sentence, the Guwahati Police will deport Kasem Ali to Bangladesh, in accordance with the court’s directive, after making the necessary arrangements as per the prescribed procedure.
