Bangladeshi Woman Reveals Illegal Influx of 17 Nationals into Assam, Police Launch Manhunt
Dhubri, August 20, 2024: In a significant development, a Bangladeshi woman detained by Dhubri Police on Monday has exposed a smuggling operation. Authorities apprehended her at Jogmaya Ghat in the Dhubri town. Her subsequent revelations have shocked officials.
The woman confessed that 17 Bangladeshi nationals illegally entered India through Dhubri. She detailed their journey, which involved traveling by water and crossing multiple rivers. The group used two middlemen, identified as Halim and Ali, to facilitate their entry.
During her statement, the woman recounted their perilous trip. She described traveling by bus, then on foot through forests, and eventually staying in two houses along the way. The group reached Assam after crossing three rivers and observing the BSF’s patrolling from a wetland area.
Following her confession, Dhubri Police have launched a targeted operation. Their goal is to locate the remaining members of the group and capture the two middlemen. This incident comes amidst heightened border security measures due to recent unrest in Bangladesh, which led to increased vigilance at the Indo-Bangladesh border.
This case underscores ongoing challenges in border management and the need for robust security measures to prevent illegal crossings.
