Prominent Banker and Philanthropist Harihar Talukdar Passes Away
Guwahati, July 30, 2024: Harihar Talukdar, a prominent figure in urban cooperative banking in Northeast India, passed away this morning following a brief illness. The former managing director of both Industrial Co-Operative Bank Limited and Union Co-Operative Bank Limited breathed his last at 6:30 AM on Tuesday in a private hospital in the city.
Talukdar, born on February 1, 1948, in Pathshala town, Western Assam, began his banking career during his college days. He completed his post-graduation in Commerce and dedicated his life to his profession with commitment and dedication. Talukdar’s career in banking was eventful and distinguished. He served as the secretary of NAFCUB Assam, contributing significantly to the sector.
Apart from his banking career, Talukdar was deeply involved in educational and social causes. He was associated with Guwahati Public School since its establishment and served as the president of the board of governors until his demise.
Talukdar, also known as Dimbeswar Talukdar, leaves behind his wife, Chikimiki Talukdar, a poet and senior BJP leader who chaired the Assam State Commission for Women. He is survived by his daughter, Meghna Hazarika, a councillor and MIC member of Guwahati Municipal Corporation; his son-in-law, Saurav Hazarika, a businessman; his son, Luit Talukdar, an APS officer; and his daughter-in-law, Pallabi Kalita Talukdar, a bank official. He also leaves behind three granddaughters: Shruti, Diya, and Teesta.
His last rites were performed at Navagraha crematorium in the Silpukhuri locality. The ceremony was attended by close relatives and well-wishers, marking the end of a life dedicated to service and community.
Talukdar’s legacy in the banking sector and his contributions to society will be remembered and cherished.
