Bhubaneswar Kalita Appointed Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology
Desk Report, September 27, 2024: Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita has stepped into a pivotal role as the Chairman of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment, Forests, and Climate Change. The announcement came as the government officially constituted the Parliamentary Standing Committees for the 2024-2025 term, set to be effective from September 26, 2024.
Expressing his gratitude on the social platform ‘X’ today, MP Kalita extended his thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP leadership for this significant appointment. “I am deeply honored and grateful for the opportunity,” he remarked, signaling his readiness to lead discussions on pressing national issues like scientific innovation, environmental conservation, and climate action.
Meanwhile, in a noteworthy development, Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has been appointed as a member of the Committee on Defence. His inclusion is seen as an opportunity for him to actively engage in discussions related to India’s defence strategies, an area where diverse perspectives are crucial.
Adding another layer to these developments, BJP MP and well-known actor Kangana Ranaut has been appointed to the Committee on Communications and Information Technology. Her presence is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the committee’s work, especially in areas like digital infrastructure and communication technology, sectors that continue to shape the country’s future.
The new committee appointments underline a conscious effort to ensure that India’s policy-making remains inclusive, with representatives from varied backgrounds and political affiliations playing essential roles.
