BJP Unveils Star Candidates for Upcoming Elections
Desk Report, March 14, 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has disclosed its second candidate list for the imminent Lok Sabha elections, featuring 72 names that include seasoned politicians such as Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, and Anurag Singh Thakur.
The release of this list, however, was not without its share of last-minute hurdles, specifically over one seat each in Bihar. Despite the hiccup, the list showcases a mix of experienced leaders and fresh faces, highlighting the party’s commitment to a dynamic and inclusive representation.
Prominent figures like Piyush Goyal, making his electoral debut, and Manohar Lal Khattar, recently withdrawn from the post of Haryana Chief Minister, add a new dimension to the BJP’s lineup. Former Chief Ministers Trivendra Singh Rawat and Basavaraj Bommai have also been included, further diversifying the candidate pool.
This comprehensive list spans across various states, with candidates declared for seats in Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
Among the notable faces, Union minister Pralhad Joshi will contest from Dharwad, while BS Yediyurappa’s son, BY Raghavendra, steps into the electoral arena from Shimoga. In Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya, BJP’s youth wing chief, seeks re-election, and Yaduveer Krishnadatta Wadiyar replaces Pratap Simha as the candidate for Mysore.
Maharashtra, a crucial battleground, witnesses the participation of Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal, alongside former state minister Pankaja Munde. The party has announced candidates for 20 of the state’s 48 seats, underlining Maharashtra’s pivotal role in shaping the Lok Sabha.
Renominations include Nitin Gadkari from Nagpur, the BJP’s ideological stronghold. Noteworthy additions to the list feature Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal, fielded from Mumbai North, and Pankaja Munde from Beed.
In a notable announcement, the BJP introduces its star candidates, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a third term from Varanasi, and Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh contesting from Gandhinagar and Lucknow. The list, comprising 34 Union ministers, reflects the party’s strategic approach and solidifies its stance for the upcoming elections.
