Desk Report, May 04, 2024: In a concerted effort to combat the illegal movement of cattle towards border areas, the Border Security Force (BSF) executed two successful operations in the districts of Cachar and Karimganj in Assam. Acting on precise intelligence, BSF personnel intercepted and seized a total of nine cattle, thwarting attempts at smuggling across the border into Bangladesh.
The first operation, conducted jointly with Karimganj Police, resulted in the rescue and confiscation of five cattle in the vicinity of Village Kurikhal. The animals were intercepted while being transported towards the border in a Maruti Super Carry vehicle bearing registration number AS 10AC 2609. Additionally, one individual, identified as Ziaul Hoque Choudhury of Kurikhala, Karimganj, Assam, was apprehended by authorities during the operation, marking a significant advancement in the fight against cattle smuggling in the region.
In a separate operation, BSF personnel from the M & C Frontier and 170 Bn BSF intercepted and rescued four cattle being illicitly transported in a Tata ACE medium vehicle with registration number AS 24 AC 2680. The apprehension of three individuals—Tarul Ahmad of Nitayinnagar, Hailakandi, Naykuddin of Kalain, Cachar, and Faizul Haq of Nitayinnagar, Hailakandi—further bolstered the enforcement efforts against the clandestine trade.
Following protocol, the seized cattle, along with the vehicles used for their illegal transportation, and the apprehended smugglers, totaling four individuals, were handed over to the custody of Karimganj and Gumrah Police Stations for subsequent legal proceedings.
The BSF’s relentless vigilance and proactive measures have resulted in the seizure of a staggering 87 cattle since January 2024, underscoring its unwavering commitment to curbing cattle smuggling activities along the Cachar and Karimganj border areas. This concerted effort not only upholds the rule of law but also safeguards the integrity of the nation’s borders against illicit transgressions.
