BSF Thwarts Smuggling Attempt, Recovers ₹27.5 Lakh Medicines at Meghalaya Border
In a significant anti-smuggling operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya successfully intercepted contraband medicines worth ₹27.5 lakh. Acting on specific intelligence, personnel from the 172 Battalion thwarted the smuggling attempt along the India-Bangladesh border in East Jaintia Hills district.
The operation, conducted with precision, led to the seizure of 10,000 units of IV cannulas. These medical supplies, valued at over ₹27.50 lakh, were intended for illegal cross-border trade. However, the vigilance and swift response of the BSF prevented the smuggling.
Officials confirmed that the consignment was abandoned by smugglers near the border when they noticed the BSF troops approaching. Despite an extensive search of the area, no arrests were made during the operation.
Smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya has been a persistent challenge due to the difficult terrain and strategic location. However, the BSF remains committed to curbing illegal activities in the region, ensuring the safety and security of the international border.
This latest seizure highlights the BSF’s dedication to preventing cross-border smuggling. Authorities assured that heightened vigilance and regular intelligence-based operations will continue to deter such activities in the future.
