Two Women Apprehended for Facilitating Illegal Immigration at Indo-Bangladesh Border
Dhubri, August 26, 2024: In a significant operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two women for allegedly facilitating illegal immigration into India. The incident occurred at Sastarghat Pt-III, a village near the Indo-Bangladesh border under the jurisdiction of Pattamari Gaon Panchayat in Dhubri District.
The women, identified as Jobeda Khatun from Mantrirchar area and Taherun Bibi, a resident of Sastarghat Pt-III, are reported to be relatives. Initially detained by BSF, they were later handed over to Dhubri Police after an FIR was lodged for further investigation.
During media interactions, Jobeda revealed that she visited her relative Taherun to meet her husband, Abdul Baten Sarkar, who fled to Bangladesh 15 years ago. Baten had recently returned to India and visited Taherun’s residence in Sastarghat, where Jobeda met him.
Sources suggest that BSF suspected Jobeda and Taherun of not only aiding Baten’s illegal entry into India but also assisting other illegal immigrants in crossing the border. This operation follows closely on the heels of Dhubri Police detaining another illegal immigrant, Lipi Akhtar, from Jogomaya Ghat in Dhubri town. This led to the arrest of Ali Hussain, a broker involved in facilitating such illegal entries.
It is noteworthy that during her investigation, Lipi Akhtar disclosed crucial details about the network facilitating illegal immigration from Bangladesh into India through various routes. The recent arrests underscore the ongoing challenges in managing cross-border movements and highlight the need for stringent border security measures.
