Dhubri Police Intercept Cattle Smuggling Operation Disguised in Cement-Laden Vehicle
Dhubri, August 16, 2024: In a significant operation, Dhubri Police intercepted a vehicle loaded with freight cement that was being used to smuggle cattle, suspected to be en route to Bangladesh. The vehicle, a D.I. Pickup, was apprehended at Ward No. 09, Nooniyapatti within the Dhubri municipal area, after a high-speed chase. The two cows, believed to have been brought from West Bengal, were found brutally confined inside the vehicle with their legs tied.
The smugglers had meticulously concealed the cattle under approximately 100 packets of cement, attempting to mask the illegal transport. While several individuals, including the driver, managed to flee the scene, the police successfully detained one suspect, identified as Abdul Salam. Salam, a resident of Ward 11, Bahadurtari in Dhubri, was promptly arrested.
The police suspect that the cattle were intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh via Dhubri town, utilizing river waterways as the route. This incident highlights the continued prevalence of cattle smuggling in the region, despite ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade.
Authorities are intensifying their vigilance in Dhubri, particularly around vulnerable border areas, to prevent similar smuggling attempts in the future. The arrest of Abdul Salam marks a notable success in the fight against this illicit activity, though the escape of other suspects indicates that the battle is far from over.
