Central Government Commits to Flood Management in Assam in Union Budget 2024-25
Desk Report, July 23, 2024: In a decisive move to address ongoing flood challenges, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Tuesday that the central government will provide substantial support for flood management projects in Assam. This announcement was made during the presentation of the Union Budget for 2024-25.
Sitharaman highlighted that Assam, along with Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim, will receive targeted assistance to combat the adverse effects of recent natural calamities. The comprehensive support package aims to mitigate the severe impact of floods that have plagued these regions.
As part of the budget, the government has allocated Rs 11,500 crore specifically for flood mitigation efforts in Bihar, further demonstrating its dedication to addressing flood-related crises across the nation. This allocation underscores the central government’s commitment to bolstering disaster resilience and ensuring sustainable development in flood-prone areas.
