Champai Soren, Former Jharkhand Chief Minister, Set to Join BJP This Week
Desk Report, August 27, 2024: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, a prominent Adivasi leader, is scheduled to officially join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 30 in Ranchi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also co-incharges the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand, confirmed this in a late-night tweet on Monday.
Earlier, Champai Soren met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This significant meeting hinted at Soren’s political shift. The confirmation of his joining BJP was later made public by Sarma, who shared the update on X, formerly Twitter.
In his tweet, Sarma expressed, “Former Jharkhand CM and a distinguished Adivasi leader, @ChampaiSoren Ji, met Union Home Minister @AmitShah Ji a short while ago. He will officially join @BJP4India on 30th August in Ranchi.”
This move by Champai Soren, known for his influence among Adivasi communities, is expected to strengthen the BJP’s position in the state as they prepare for the upcoming assembly elections.
