15904 Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express Derails Near Gonda Junction: 2 Dead, 8 Injured
Desk Report, July 19, 2024: The 15904 Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Gonda Junction station at kilometer 638/19 under the jurisdiction of North Eastern Railway at approximately 14:37 hours yesterday. North Eastern Railway officials have confirmed that the derailment has tragically resulted in two fatalities and eight injuries.
Following the incident, authorities have taken immediate steps to mitigate the impact on other rail services. The following trains are being diverted:
– 15707 Katihar-Amritsar Amrapali Express
– 15603 Guwahati-Jammu Tawi Amarnath Express
– 15910 Lalgarh-Dibrugarh Avadh Assam Express
Stranded passengers from the derailed train are being transported by bus to Mankapur station, located near Gonda. Additionally, a special train has been arranged from Mankapur to Dibrugarh. This special service includes necessary stoppages along the route to accommodate the affected passengers and ensure their safe and timely arrival at their destinations.
An ex gratia of Rs. 10 lakhs has been announced for the families of the deceased, Rs. 2.5 lakhs for grievous injuries, and Rs. 50,000 for minor injuries. Apart from the CRS enquiry, the Ministry of Railways has ordered a high-level investigation into the incident.
