Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Addresses District Commissioners in Guwahati Conference
Guwahati, July 29, 2024: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is currently leading a crucial two-day District Commissioners’ (DC) Conference in Guwahati. His opening remarks highlighted several key directives for the DCs.
Dr. Sarma commended the DCs for their successful and peaceful management of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. He urged them to visit polling stations that achieved over 95% voter turnout to review their effectiveness.
The Chief Minister stressed the need for DCs to transform their districts into central hubs for administration. This transformation is aimed at ensuring efficient distribution of benefits to the populace.
Starting October 2, sub-districts will begin operations, with foundation stones for their permanent offices also being laid that day. A core team at the state level will be established to assist DCs in delegating tasks to these new sub-districts.
DCs are advised to focus on their districts’ unique strengths to contribute effectively to the state’s growth. They are expected to oversee and supervise construction projects within their jurisdictions and play an active role in district development.
Special attention is required for accelerating work on health, education, and Anganwadi Centers, given their significant development potential. By August 12, DCs must ensure the distribution of flood rehabilitation grants.
Regular meetings with Guardian Ministers are recommended, ideally on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Government functions should be kept simple and formal, with vegetarian food served at events involving the Chief Minister or other ministers.
For visits by the Chief Minister, the convoy should not exceed ten vehicles, including those of the DC and SP. Additionally, DCs are encouraged to visit the homes of local achievers to acknowledge their contributions.
This conference is designed to enhance administrative efficiency and drive development across the state.
