Assam Panchayat Elections Set for November; Chief Minister Announces Preparatory Measures
Guwahati, June 06, 2024: In a significant development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam unveiled plans for the forthcoming state panchayat elections, slated to take place in November of this year. The announcement came during a press briefing where the Chief Minister outlined the comprehensive preparations underway.
Addressing the media, Chief Minister Sarma disclosed that a pivotal aspect of the preparations involves the restructuring of all development blocks, alongside the delineation of panchayats. These vital administrative tasks are scheduled to be finalized by the months of August and September, ensuring the requisite groundwork for the electoral process.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Sarma shed light on the Assam Orunodoi Scheme, a flagship welfare initiative aimed at bolstering social security. He revealed the formation of a dedicated cabinet sub-committee entrusted with the responsibility of evaluating the scheme’s efficacy. The committee, comprising esteemed ministers Ajanta Neog, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, and Bimal Bora, has been tasked with delivering a comprehensive report within a month’s timeframe.
