Guwahati Kid Missing in Flood: Chief Minister Supervises Rescue Efforts
Guwahati, July 06, 2204: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited West Jyotinagar in Guwahati to oversee rescue operations for 8-year-old Avinash Sarkar. Avinash, son of Harlal Sarkar, went missing in the floods after being swept away by a roadside drain in Bamunimaidam.
The Chief Minister expressed his concern to Avinash’s parents and urged the rescue team to expedite their efforts. “Extensive search operations have been underway since yesterday to find your child. Search operations will continue till tomorrow,” Sarma said. “If your son is not found by then, it would mean that 72 hours have passed, and the possibility of finding him alive would sadly diminish to a great extent.”
He also advised the parents to take care of their health and consider their other son. “Staying here continuously will affect your health. You have another son to look after. Stay strong for him. Go home today and rest. Return tomorrow morning when the search operations resume,” Sarma added.
The Chief Minister assured the parents of his prayers for Avinash’s safe return and promised to visit their home on Sunday or Monday.
Accompanying Sarma were GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Special DGP of Assam Police Harmeet Singh, Kamrup Metro District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, and Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah.
