CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates Infrastructure Development at Chunpara Vithi Than, Barpeta
March 15, 2025: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the infrastructure development project at Chunpara Vithi Than, Barpeta, a site of historical and spiritual significance where Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva spent a year in 1544. The project, with an investment of ₹7.32 crore, aims to enhance tourism, boost the local economy, and provide improved facilities for devotees visiting Barpeta Satra.
The initiative focuses on preserving cultural heritage while modernizing essential infrastructure. Restoration and preservation efforts include revamping the Namghar, Kirtan Ghar, and Monikut. Additionally, improvements will be made to the entrance, Batchora, Rang Ghar, and Darshan Ghar. New constructions such as Doul Ghar, dining areas, and restrooms will also be built.
To ensure a better experience for visitors, security, sanitation, and drinking water facilities will be upgraded. The project also includes beautification measures such as paved roads, gazebos, and modern lighting.
Speaking at the event, CM Sarma emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving Assam’s rich cultural and religious heritage. He highlighted that the development will attract more pilgrims and tourists, thereby strengthening the local economy.
