Congress Announces Candidates for Assam By-Elections 2024

Congress Announces Candidates for Assam By-Elections on November 13

The Congress Party has officially unveiled its candidates for the upcoming by-elections in Assam, scheduled for November 13. The announcement, made on Sunday, includes the party’s nominees for four key assembly constituencies: Dholai, Sidli, Bongaigaon, and Samaguri.

Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha has been named the candidate for Dholai, Sanjib Warle for Sidli, Brajenjit Sinha for Bongaigaon, and Tanzil Hussain for Samaguri. The nomination for the Behali constituency remains pending as the party continues to assess its strategy for the seat.

This declaration comes shortly after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) revealed its list of candidates on Saturday. Both parties are preparing for the by-elections, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) setting the polling date for November 13. Results are expected to be declared on November 23.

The by-elections in Assam will fill five vacant assembly seats—Dholai, Sidli, Bongaigaon, Behali, and Samaguri—which became vacant earlier this year due to the transition of several MLAs to parliamentary roles following the Lok Sabha elections.
