Cryptocurrency Scam App Investigation Leads to Arrest of Two Suspects
Desk Report, June 7, 2024: Assam police have made significant progress in dismantling a sophisticated cryptocurrency scam that defrauded numerous unsuspecting individuals of their savings. The investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by Jahan Uddin, a resident of Karimganj, Assam, who detailed his unfortunate entanglement with an agency allegedly engaged in cryptocurrency investments.
Jahan Uddin’s complaint revealed that the organization behind these operations was orchestrating fraudulent schemes, enticing victims with promises of exorbitant returns through fake cryptocurrency applications. Upon recognizing the deceit, he promptly filed a First Information Report (FIR), triggering a swift response from the authorities.
The police investigation led to the apprehension of two suspects, identified as Sultan Ahmed Choudhury and Mustaquin Ahmed Laskar. Choudhury, a resident of Lavour Potha village in Katigorah, Cachar, and Laskar, hailing from Sonai in the same district, were captured with the assistance of Sonai and Kalain Police Stations.
A raid conducted at Choudhury’s residence resulted in the seizure of approximately Rs. 50 lakh, alongside a collection of electronic devices including a laptop and a mobile handset, as well as a Tata Nexon vehicle. These items are believed to be instrumental in the execution of the scam.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to identify additional accomplices involved in the fraudulent activities, striving to dismantle the intricate web of deceit propagated through these spurious cryptocurrency applications. The investigation underscores the commitment of the Assam police to protect the public from such financial malfeasance and bring the perpetrators to justice.
