Anti-Poaching Operation in Assam: Four Arrested at Orang National Park with Weapons
In a significant anti-poaching operation, Darrang Police have apprehended four individuals suspected of planning a rhino poaching expedition at Orang National Park. The suspects, identified as Nur Hussain, Abul Hussain, Jaffar Ali, and Nur Islam, were detained with various items reportedly intended for the mission.
Police recovered one .303 rifle with ammunition, three mobile phones, five motorcycles, and other camping supplies from the suspects’ possession. Authorities believe the group was preparing to enter the park illegally to hunt rhinos, an endangered species protected by strict conservation laws.
Assam Police DGP GP Singh commended the swift action by Darrang Police and the intelligence units involved, stating, “Well done Darrang Police and units that provided the input.” The DGP’s remarks reflect Assam Police’s commitment to safeguarding wildlife, particularly rhinos, which remain highly vulnerable to poaching threats.
This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Darrang police to counter illegal wildlife poaching and preserve Assam’s rich biodiversity.
