Desk Report, August 23, 2024: In a critical breakthrough, police have arrested Tafazul Islam, one of the three men accused in the brutal gangrape case in Dhing. The arrest was made following an intensive investigation that identified Islam as a key suspect. However, efforts are still ongoing to apprehend the remaining two perpetrators.
The horrific crime, which has sent shockwaves across the state, involved three unidentified men who allegedly arrived on a motorcycle and attacked a minor girl as she was returning from tuition. After the assault, the assailants abandoned her in a nearby forest. Local residents later found the victim and rushed her to Dhing FRU. Due to her critical condition, she was then referred to Nagaon for further medical treatment.
In response to the incident, the Dhing Regional Students’ Union has declared a complete shutdown of the area until the remaining suspects are caught. Shops, markets, and educational institutions will remain closed, while police and paramilitary forces maintain heightened security to prevent any further unrest.
Assam Director General of Police GP Singh visited Dhing today and assured the public that justice will be served. “We will crack the case and take it to its logical conclusion,” Singh said, reaffirming the police’s commitment to protecting women and girls in the region.
