Undertrial Prisoner’s Daring Escape from Dhubri Jail Ends in Quick Arrest
Dhubri Prisoner Escapes Jail but Caught Swiftly; Authorities Probe Security Lapses
Dhubri: In Dhubri district, an undertrial prisoner managed to escape from the district jail on Tuesday afternoon. However, the authorities quickly acted and recaptured him within hours.
The incident took place around 1:30 PM when Nazmul Sheikh, a resident of Ward No. 8 in Bilasipara, Dhubri district, scaled a vulnerable section of the jail wall. Sheikh, who had been in custody for two months under charges related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, exploited a low portion of the wall to flee.
According to jail staff, other inmates witnessed Sheikh’s escape and immediately alerted the authorities. Acting swiftly, the staff organized a pursuit and tracked the fugitive to Gauripur Bus Stand by 2:30 PM.

Following his recapture, the jail administration initiated an inquiry into the incident. The investigation is focusing on identifying the security weaknesses that facilitated the prisoner’s escape. Officials are assessing structural vulnerabilities, including the compromised wall section, to prevent future incidents.
