Teachers Stage Protest Over Lack of DDO at Dhubri Government Girls Higher Secondary School
Dhubri, August 13, 2024: The Dhubri Government Girls Higher Secondary School is in turmoil due to the Education Department’s failure to appoint a Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO). For over a month, the school has operated without a DDO, leading to unpaid salaries and a disrupted midday meal program.
On Tuesday, August 13, 32 teachers and 8 non-teaching staff staged a pen-down protest, halting all educational activities. The protest was a response to the department’s ongoing neglect, as no Principal or DDO was appointed after the former Principal retired on June 30. Teachers, forced to borrow food supplies on credit, have been managing the meal program at a daily cost of Rs 2,000. However, the unpaid July salaries have further strained their financial situation.
This crisis has left the school in a dire state, with 625 students suffering due to the department’s negligence. According to government rules, only a Principal or an Inspector of Schools can serve as a DDO. Yet, the lack of such an appointment has jeopardized both the educational and nutritional needs of the students.
This situation highlights serious flaws in the Education Department’s management. As the crisis deepens, immediate action from higher authorities is urgently needed.
