Mizoram Police Seize Large Quantities of Methamphetamine and Heroin in Coordinated Operations
Desk Report, July 14, 2204: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Mizoram Police successfully seized substantial quantities of narcotics in two separate operations on July 12, 2024. The coordinated efforts took place in Khawzawl and Champhai districts, leading to the confiscation of methamphetamine and heroin valued at over Rs. 32 crore in the local market.
In the first operation, a joint task force from Khawzawl and Champhai District Police intercepted a Bolero vehicle (registration number MZ-06-1517) traveling from Champhai towards Aizawl. The vehicle, driven and owned by Lalrintluanga, 50, of Champhai Vengsang, was found to be carrying an immense quantity of methamphetamine. The drugs, weighing 115.55 kilograms and packed into 106 packets (totaling 1,070,600 tablets), are estimated to be worth Rs. 32,11,80,000 in the local market.
A case was registered at Khawzawl Police Station (Case No. 40 dated 12.7.2024) under sections 22(c) and 25 of the ND&PS Act. The investigation is ongoing to uncover further connections related to this significant seizure.
In a parallel operation on the same day, the Zokhawthar Police Station operations team, acting on specific intelligence, recovered 124 soap cases of suspected heroin. The contraband, weighing 1,429 grams and valued at Rs. 42,87,000, was found in a Venue car (registration number MZ-01AA-9326) near the Zokhawthar Playground.
The heroin was in the possession of Lalduhawmi, 27, daughter of the late Lalduhthara of Dinthar Veng, Champhai. A case was registered at Zokhawthar Police Station (Case No. 61/2024 dated 12.07.2024) under sections 21(c) and 25 of the ND&PS Act. Legal actions and investigations are underway to trace the forward and backward linkages of this drug trafficking network.
These successful operations underscore the Mizoram Police’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and maintaining law and order in the region.
