Eid-ul-Fitr 2025: Saudi Arabia Announces Moon Sighting, India Awaits Confirmation

Eid-ul-Fitr 2025: Saudi Arabia Confirms Moon Sighting, India Awaits Crescent for Festival Date

March 29, 2025: As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, Muslims around the world are preparing to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, a festival that marks the conclusion of a month-long fast. However, the exact date of Eid depends on the sighting of the crescent moon, which signals the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal.

On Saturday, Saudi Arabian authorities confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, declaring that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed in the country on Sunday, March 30, 2025. This announcement aligns with the Islamic tradition of moon sighting, which determines the commencement of Eid festivities.

Meanwhile, in India, the month of Ramadan began on March 2, 2025, and the country awaits its own crescent moon sighting to determine whether Eid-ul-Fitr will fall on March 31 or April 1. Islamic scholars and moon sighting committees across different states will observe the sky after sunset to make an official announcement.

Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the most significant Islamic festivals, celebrated with prayers, feasts, and charitable acts. It marks a day of gratitude and joy as fasting Muslims come together with family and friends to commemorate the spiritual journey of Ramadan.

The difference in Eid dates across regions is common due to variations in moon sighting reports. While Saudi Arabia has already confirmed its Eid date, other countries, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, will make their declarations based on local moon sightings.

Muslim communities worldwide are now eagerly awaiting final announcements, with preparations in full swing for the festive occasion.
