Tragedy Strikes: Youth’s Electrocution Sparks Community Outcry
Nagarbera, April 23, 2024: In the quiet village of Kholabandha, tragedy struck with the untimely demise of Sanidul Islam, an 18-year-old resident, due to electrocution. The incident, which occurred at Abdul Majid’s residence, where a water supply project is located, has sent shockwaves through the community.
Sanidul Islam’s fatal misfortune befell him as he climbed onto the roof of the water supply project. In an unfortunate turn of events, he made contact with an electric wire passing over the roof, rendering him unconscious. Despite the swift response of local residents, who rushed him to the Urban Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Alopatti, their efforts were in vain. The absence of a medical professional at the PHC compelled Sanidul’s transfer to the Nagarbera block primary health centre, where he was declared brought dead by attending doctors.
The incident has not only gripped the immediate vicinity of Kholabandha but has reverberated throughout the entire Chenga constituency of Barpeta district. As the community mourns the loss of a promising young life, attention turns to the accountability of those responsible for ensuring safety standards at the water supply project.
In the wake of this tragic event, it is imperative for departmental authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sanidul Islam’s death. Swift and decisive action must be taken to hold accountable those responsible for the oversight and to ensure that corrective measures are implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
