Imposter Posing as CBI Officer Arrested in Guwahati; Accomplice Also Apprehended
Guwahati, August 19, 2024: In a significant breakthrough, a team from the West Guwahati Police District, Jalukbari Outpost, apprehended an imposter, Fayajul Hazarika, also known as Denish Hazarika, from Sipajhar, for impersonating a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer. The 26-year-old was arrested last night after being caught in the act. The arrest followed a raid on his rented room in Six Mile, which led to the recovery of a police uniform, two toy pistols, a fake CBI identity card, and counterfeit badges.
Hazarika is accused of using his fake identity to extort money and cheat individuals by promising them jobs. The police have booked him under charges of impersonation and fraud. The authorities have also launched an investigation into the extent of his fraudulent activities and the number of people he may have deceived.
In a related development, the police also apprehended Gautam Saikia, also known as Ayan, from Moran, who is accused of aiding Hazarika by allowing his Alto car (registration number AS 01 RC 3150) to be used in the illegal activities. Legal proceedings against both individuals have been initiated, and further investigation is underway.
