Boiler Explosion at Amber Chemical Company in Dombivli: Two Dead, 45 Severely Injured
Desk Report, May 23, 2024: At least two people were killed and 45 severely injured after a major fire erupted in the Dombivli industrial area. The incident occurred at the Amber Chemical Company on Thursday following a boiler explosion.
Witnesses reported seeing huge plumes of smoke, and the explosion’s sound reportedly traveled up to 3 kilometers from the blast site. Cabinet Minister Uday Samant promptly arrived at the scene, where firefighting efforts continued for hours. The minister assured a plan to establish a permanent solution for MIDC Dombivli.
Factory workers were immediately evacuated, and no further casualties have been reported. The fire, however, spread to nearby factories, prompting an evacuation of the entire area. A social media user claimed the blast shattered the windows in his house.
Yasin Tadvi, chief of the disaster management cell of the Thane civic body, informed news agency PTI that the explosion occurred around 1:40 pm, tearing through the chemicals factory. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that eight people trapped on the premises were rescued.
“Arrangements have been made to treat the injured, and additional ambulances are on standby. I have coordinated with the Thane collector, and teams from NDRF, TDRF, and the fire brigade are on site,” Fadnavis stated on social media platform X. He also expressed prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.
