N.N. Changkakoti, Former Assam DGP, Dies in Guwahati at 91
Guwahati: Former Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, N.N. Changkakoti, passed away on Sunday at the age of 91. He breathed his last at Down Town Hospital in Guwahati, where he was admitted on November 4 due to age-related health issues.
Changkakoti, a highly regarded IPS officer, served as Assam’s DGP in 1988. He was widely admired for his dedication to law enforcement and unwavering principles. Beyond his policing career, he earned respect as a writer, essayist, and social activist, contributing significantly to society in multiple ways.
Assam Police DGP G.P. Singh expressed heartfelt condolences, stating, “Assam Police mourns the passing of Sri N.N. Changkakoti IPS, Former DGP Assam. The entire police family remembers him fondly and remains grateful for his leadership.” Singh further announced that the Assam Police flag would fly at half-mast across all units as a mark of respect for the departed leader.
The funeral is scheduled for Monday at Nabagraha Crematorium in Guwahati. As friends, family, and colleagues prepare to bid their final farewell, Changkakoti’s extraordinary life and service will continue to inspire future generations.
