Court Sentences 3 to 20 Years Imprisonment for Sexual Abuse of Minor in Kamrup
Guwahati, August 12, 2024: In a significant ruling, the Additional Sessions Judge cum Special Judge for POCSO in Kamrup (M) has convicted three individuals for the sexual abuse of a minor girl. The accused Pappa Ali, also known as Khan, from Fatasil Ambari, Bittu Saha from Bhaskar Nagar, and Bikky Sarkar from Lalganesh were found guilty of the crime.
On August 7, 2024, the court sentenced the three men to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and Section 376-D of the IPC. Additionally, the court imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000 on each, to be given to the victim as compensation.
The case began with the filing of an FIR on January 17, 2024, at the All Women Police Station in Panbazar. The victim was reportedly assaulted on the night of January 14 and 15, 2024, in a rented room in Lalganesh. Following the FIR, the accused were promptly arrested. After a thorough investigation, a chargesheet was filed on April 12, 2024. The investigation, led by Woman Sub-Inspector Barasha Buragohain of All Women Police Station, was meticulous and comprehensive, ensuring justice for the victim.
This verdict marks a critical step in the ongoing fight against sexual crimes, reaffirming the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of victims.
