APSC ADO Recruitment Scam: Gauhati High Court Convicts 32, Including Former APSC Chairman
Guwahati, July 22, 2024: In a significant development, the Gauhati High Court has convicted 32 individuals in the APSC Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) recruitment scam. Among those convicted is Rakesh Paul, the former chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). The case, registered under Bhangagarh PS Case No. 159/2017, has gained attention due to the high-profile nature of the accused and the extensive corruption involved in the 2013 ADO recruitment process.
The convicted individuals include APSC members Rakesh Kumar Paul, Basanta Kumar Doley, Samedur Rahman, and Binata Rynjha, who has now been declared an approver. Additionally, 36 candidates, one APSC employee, and three middlemen were found guilty. However, 11 individuals previously implicated in the scam were acquitted.
The ADO recruitment scam is part of the broader APSC cash-for-job scandal, where candidates allegedly bribed officials to secure government positions. Rakesh Paul played a central role, overseeing the fraudulent activities. First exposed in 2015-16, the scandal involved candidates manipulating exams through bribery to obtain government jobs.
