Gaurav Gogoi Takes Responsibility for Congress’ Defeat in Behali By-Election, Highlights Party’s Progress
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has taken full responsibility for the party’s defeat in the recent Behali by-election, a traditional BJP bastion. Despite the loss, Gogoi highlighted the significant strides made by the Congress in the constituency, which saw an increase in the party’s vote share and a notable reduction in the margin between the BJP and Congress candidates.
In a statement shared on his microblogging site ‘X,’ Gogoi expressed gratitude to the people of Behali for their support. He acknowledged the party’s uphill battle, noting the absence of MLAs or established grassroots support in the region. He stated, “I take full responsibility for the Congress party’s defeat in Behali. Despite this being a BJP stronghold, we have significantly increased our vote share and halved the margin between us and the BJP.”
Gogoi also emphasized the efforts of the BJP leadership, who had deployed their cabinet ministers, MLAs, and the Chief of Autonomous Councils to the region for three weeks during the campaign. This extensive effort underscores the scale of the challenge faced by Congress.
However, the MP pointed to positive momentum for the Congress in North Assam. He added, “The party’s growth in the region remains my focus, and we will continue to build on this progress.”
He further extended his appreciation to Congress workers and supporters for their dedication during the campaign. Gogoi concluded by reiterating his gratitude to the people of Behali, saying, “Your love and support mean a lot to us.”
