Siblings Arrested, 600 Bottles of Intoxicating Cough Syrup Seized in Gauripur
Dhubri, August 03, 2024: Gauripur police apprehended two siblings and seized 600 bottles of intoxicating cough syrup in Balajan, Dhubri. The operation, led by Jitumoni Baishya, Officer-in-Charge of Gauripur police station, and Baharul Islam, In-Charge of Balajan Police Out Post, occurred during a routine check in the Balajan area.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team intercepted a Bolero pickup late Friday night. The vehicle, traveling from West Bengal to Gauripur, bore the registration number AS 17 C 7304. Upon inspection, officers found the vehicle carrying a large cache of banned cough syrup.
The arrested individuals were identified as Monirul Haque and Zainuddin Sheikh, both brothers from Khilapara village in Bongaigaon district. This significant seizure underscores the ongoing efforts to curb the smuggling of banned substances in the region.
