Tragic Boat Accident in Goalpara: Chief Minister Sarma Pledges Support to Bereaved Families
Guwahati, July 13, 2024: In a tragic incident, five individuals lost their lives in a boat accident in Goalpara. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with the families of the victims, offering condolences and assuring them of necessary support. He announced an aid package of ₹4 lakh for each family affected by the disaster.
The accident occurred in the Simlitola area of the Goalpara district. On Thursday, relatives of Anjana Malakar, who had passed away after a prolonged illness, were transporting her body for the final rites. During their return journey, the boat capsized, resulting in the tragic drowning of all on board.
The victims were identified as Sujan Malakar, Jeetu Karmakar, Prasenjit Saha, Gouranga Malakar, and Uday Sarkar. Rescue teams recovered their bodies from the waterbody.
During his visit to the accident site on Friday, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the grieving families. He stated, “On behalf of the government, we will provide ₹4 lakh to each family. The road ahead is challenging, but we will offer any possible assistance in the future.”
The Chief Minister’s visit underscores the government’s efforts to address the needs of those affected by the tragedy, ensuring they receive the necessary aid and support during this difficult time.
