Golakganj Police Seize Large Quantity of Suspected Burmese Supari; Five Smugglers Arrested
Agomani, May 29, 2024: In a decisive operation against smuggling activities, the Golakganj police have seized a substantial quantity of suspected Burmese supari (Areca nut) and arrested five individuals. Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by Ratul Haloi, Circle Inspector of Golakganj, intercepted a truck bearing the registration number AS 26 C 9237 on National Highway 17 at the North Raipur rail gate in Golakganj.
Upon searching the vehicle, the police discovered 160 sacks of the suspected contraband. The arrested suspects, identified as Rashidul Hoque, Eyarof Ali, Habibur Rahman, Rajibul Hoque, and Kasimuddin Ali, were taken into custody and subsequently transported to the Golakganj police station for further questioning.
All five individuals have been placed in judicial custody as of today. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement authorities to combat smuggling and illegal trade in the region. Further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the smuggling network and its operations
