Government Introduces Cashless Treatment Scheme for Road Accident Victims in Assam
Guwahati, August 04, 2024: In a significant move to enhance road safety and emergency care, the government has initiated a pilot program to provide cashless treatment for road accident victims in Assam. This program, aimed at improving response and care during emergencies, is part of a proactive approach to road safety, encompassing the 4Es – Engineering, Enforcement, Emergency Care, and Education.
Scheme Highlights:
– The scheme offers cashless treatment up to INR 1,50,000 for road accident victims, covering up to 7 days from the start of treatment.
– The program is universally applicable, with no exclusions based on social or economic criteria.
– Available at all PM-JAY empanelled hospitals in Assam, totaling 348 facilities.
– If a victim has coverage under PM-JAY, another government scheme, or private insurance, the INR 1,50,000 limit will be exhausted first before any additional coverage is applied.
– Police must authenticate that the victim is a road accident case within 3 hours of the hospital’s request to the police department if the victim is admitted before police reporting.
– First responders must make iRAD entries immediately for the accident, which will be used for authentication.
– The Transaction Management System (TMS) of the Health Department and iRAD have been integrated to avoid data duplication, with TMS IDs and iRAD IDs mapped.
The pilot phase of this scheme has already benefitted 272 victims, underscoring its potential to provide timely and crucial support to road accident victims across the state.
This initiative marks a pivotal step towards enhancing road safety and providing comprehensive emergency care in Assam, ensuring that victims receive immediate and necessary medical attention without financial constraints.
