Cyber Police Station of Guwahati Thwarts Major Fraud, Recovers Over Rs 20 Lakh for Victim
Guwahati, June 21, 2024: In a significant breakthrough, the Cyber Police Station of Guwahati Police successfully intercepted a fraudulent transaction amounting to Rs 27,66,292/- and recovered Rs 20,60,000/- for the victim. The incident, which came to light yesterday, involved a sophisticated cyber fraud in which the victim was deceived into investing Rs 54 lakhs in a bogus share market scheme.
The cybercriminals, posing as investment advisors, lured the victim into transferring substantial sums of money under the pretense of high returns in the stock market. Upon realizing the fraud, the victim promptly reported the matter to the Cyber Police Station, triggering an immediate investigation.
Through meticulous tracking and swift action, the cyber police managed to freeze the fraudulent transaction, ensuring the return of Rs 20,60,000/- to the victim’s account. The remaining amount of Rs 7,06,292/- held in the intercepted transaction is expected to be credited back to the victim soon.
This successful intervention underscores the vigilance and efficiency of the Guwahati Police in combating cybercrime and safeguarding citizens from financial fraud. The case also highlights the importance of prompt reporting and awareness in tackling cyber threats effectively.
